Formerly known as “Centre for Mountain Ecosystem Studies” (CMES), Mountain Futures Research Centre was jointly established by World Agroforestry (ICRAF) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2004. The Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB), CAS, alongside ICRAF co-manage the international Mountain Futures platform. Our research centre has five professors, two international “highly cited” scientists and 12 postdoctoral researchers.
In 2014, in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), ICRAF established the Joint Laboratory on Integrated Tree-Crop-Livestock Systems at the Institute of Animal Sciences, CAAS. This lab space provides an interactive and collaborative platform for both domestic and foreign research into mountain regions, as well as the development and funding of institutions around the world. There are two professors and eight young scientists affiliated with this office.
