Botanee Group’s Practices Gain International Recognition, Officially Included in “Global Mountain Bioeconomy Framework” Case Studies

(Yunnan, August 25, 2026) — Against the backdrop of global efforts to achieve the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF), innovative practices in the bioeconomy have become a key force in driving sustainable mountain development. Recently, as the "Sino-European Bioeconomy Young Leaders Mountain Futures Summer School" progresses in Yunnan, Botanee Group, a core supporter of the project, has had its relevant practices officially included in the case studies of the "Global Mountain Bioeconomy Framework" (GMBF), thanks to its outstanding contributions in the research, development, and industrial application of plant resources. This marks a high level of recognition from international authorities for Chinese enterprises' explorations in utilizing mountain plant resources to facilitate a green economic transformation.

During the 14-day immersive training program, participants delved into diverse locations in Yunnan—including Jinning, the Yuanjiang Dry-Hot Valley, and the Hani Rice Terraces in Honghe—to systematically inspect diverse scenarios of the bioeconomy. Among these, the Botanee Group production line served as a vital stop for the field research. It showcased to global young scholars how Yunnan’s rich biodiversity advantages can be transformed into high-value-added bioeconomy products, particularly highlighting the deep integration of the "Flora" and "Formulation" themes.

Botanee Group has long been committed to the research, development, and application of Yunnan's characteristic plant resources in the field of skin health. By integrating modern biotechnology, green manufacturing processes, and sustainable supply chain management, the Group has not only achieved the scientific development and protective utilization of mountain plant resources but also created a business model that aligns with the concept of a circular economy. This practice perfectly fits the core objectives of the "Global Mountain Bioeconomy Framework" regarding "combining indigenous wisdom with modern biotechnology" and "promoting equitable protection under a circular bioeconomy."

Professor Xu Jianchu, a Researcher at the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chief Scientist at the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) in Kenya, and Initiator of the "Mountain Futures" global initiative, spoke highly of this achievement: "Mountain ecosystems are 'three-dimensional biological banks' that benefit humanity. The practice of Botanee Group fully demonstrates that through innovative biotechnological means, we can absolutely achieve a win-win situation for mountain ecological protection and economic development. Including this in the official case studies of the 'Global Mountain Bioeconomy Framework' will inspire more young leaders and enterprises to dedicate themselves to the sustainable utilization and value extraction of mountain resources."

As a supporter of this Summer School, Botanee Group not only provided a site for on-site inspections but also offered valuable industrial experience for the Sino-European interdisciplinary teams in designing "farm-to-terminal" bioeconomy value chain solutions. After touring the production lines, participants were deeply inspired. They expressed that BTN’s initiatives in raw material traceability, ecological planting, and waste recycling provided a actionable "Chinese solution" for formulating the "Mountain Futures Action Plan."

The inclusion of BTN’s practices in the "Global Mountain Bioeconomy Framework" not only elevates the influence of "Made in China" in the global green industrial chain but also further solidifies the foundation of cooperation between China and Europe in the field of the bioeconomy. Looking ahead, with the continued advancement of the "Mountain Futures" global program, BTN will continue to join hands with scientific research institutions and international organizations to explore more nature-based solutions, contributing sustained strength to the ecological health and human prosperity of global mountains.

About Mountain Futures

The "Mountain Futures" global program was jointly initiated in 2016 by the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (KIB/CAS), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). It aims to promote the restoration and sustainable use of mountain ecosystems through interdisciplinary and cross-cultural collaborative innovation, practicing the green development philosophy of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.
